A Park in the Middle of the Street

The Flatiron District

New York City, 5th Ave, Broadway at 23rd Street

Where 5th Ave. crosses Broadway, and Broadway split into two, creating a triangle on eight side of 23rd street, This is a very busy intersection. Instead of having two lanes of traffic there are three.

This is where a lot of disabled people also crosses in wheelchair or the blinds with their cane always asking for help to cross the street.

Well. this summer the city of New York decided to creat a little park or seating areas complete with tables, chairs and umbrellas, they also added plants in containers in the middle of the triangles. It is amazing to see how quickly people took to the park, in he mornings to have their coffee and read the paper before going into the office, at lunch time the seats are never enough and in the evenings just to hangout with a book or to chat with friends before going home.

The intersection is now less hazardous for everyone to cross, not only the disabled, because there is less lane of traffic to cross.

Thanks to New York City and the Flatiron District Organizers.
